Bird sculptures full of character
Icelandic designer Normann Copenhagen are turned from solid wood. The simple silhouettes of the decorative birds give the Shorebird s an almost stylized expression. At the same time, the small details have been carefully worked out. This gives each of the birds its own personality and the design is interesting and lively.
Curlew, Redshank and Little Stint
The largest of the Shorebird s is inspired by the Great Curlew, which has a long neck and an elegantly down-curved bill. It is a high-legged, aristocratic appearance. With slow, deliberate steps, he walks about and looks around vigilantly. The middle bird of Normann Copenhagen is quick and brisk like a redshank. This bird is often found in company with other waders. And finally, there is the Little Sandpiper. A sociable little bird that is often found in large flocks.
Fascination since childhood
Sigurjón Pálsson tells us: “I have been fascinated by the world of birds since I was a child. I have been watching birds for as long as I can remember. So it was clear that sooner or later I would incorporate birds into my designs. The natural light brown of oak wood is very similar to the plumage of the birds that inspired me to design. The different positions are modeled after the natural posture of wading birds as they forage for food in the sand and along the shore. The colored legs and beaks complete the look.”
The large Shorebird looks good on a shelf, sideboard or dresser. There it comes into its own next to vases and other decorations. The two smaller birds from Normann Copenhagen can be ideally placed as a group, in which the different sizes and colours create a stylish and playful impression.
